The President Calls Loved Ones of Attacked Military Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Devastating Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Invitation
The president stated he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump told reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Support
Attendees came together over the past few days at the high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to aid policing efforts in DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the head of her alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Government Revisions
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The incident prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum applications and halt granting visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Morrisey stated on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told a news show that she also intended to meet with the family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” the governor told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
