Iran Reports Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted sites associated with the the regime, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a series of missiles," it added.
The statement noted wreckage landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
